Is Dave the right expert for you?

How to know if I am a good fit for your organization or situation

If you are fed up with the crowded, cluttered, confusing, and overloaded slides that populate too many presentations, you are in the right place. If you don’t want the “cool” animation effects that have things whizzing and bouncing around the slides like an elementary school presentation, I hear you. If you want to create and deliver powerful business presentations that focus on the key messages to inspire others to take action, you’re in the right place.

If you are looking for a designer who can craft a gorgeous set of slides for a conference presentation, or looking for someone to make your slides “pretty”, I’m not your guy (but I can refer you to people who can do that work). If you are looking for practical advice that you can use to create your own persuasive PowerPoint presentations that you deliver to colleagues, executives and clients, I’m likely a good fit.

If you want someone who has brightly colored hair, piercings, and tattoos to give you avant-garde design ideas, I am definitely not the guy for you. If you prefer someone who has an MBA, wears a suit and understands the bottom line orientation of business executives and can quickly grasp the important issues of organizations, you’re looking in my direction.

I am not a designer, I have no formal design background, I don’t know Photoshop or Illustrator and I doubt I’d ever be asked to speak at a design conference. And that’s exactly why I might be right for you. If you are an executive, manager, sales professional, engineer, analyst or any other role where you have to create and deliver presentations regularly to win business, update others, or inform a group, there’s a good chance I can help you.

If you want the tools and knowledge to create high-impact presentations with the basic software programs on your corporate laptop, without having to use fancy graphics software, plug-ins, add-ins, or other software the IT department won’t approve, let’s talk. If you don’t want to have to learn VBA or programming to create meaningful data visuals you are in the right place. If you care more about the audience taking action than the audience oohing and aahhing over your slides, we’ll get along just fine.

If you want to know everything there is to know about PowerPoint and Excel, every feature, option, and dialog box, I’m not the guy (but I know those folks). If you want to be shown how to use PowerPoint and Excel to create the type of persuasive visuals that focus your audience on your message, and have books, cheat sheets, and videos to remind you of what you learned, we should talk.

If you are looking for a customized workshop for your team, department or company I can help you. If you know that hiring a thought leader means writing a cheque that has at least four numbers before the decimal point, you are ready to take the next step with me in creating and delivering more effective PowerPoint presentations (if you want someone to fix up your slides for a few hundred dollars, click here for my recommended providers, and if you want a self-study course I have that available too).

If this approach sounds right for you, then let’s chat about your unique situation and needs. You can either e-mail me at Dave@ThinkOutsideTheSlide.com or call me at 905-510-4911 (Eastern time zone in North America).
