Here is the process I follow when working with speakers and professionals in creating or revising their PowerPoint presentations:

1. We meet in person or over the telephone to discuss the structure of the presentation - what is the presentation goal, what type of presentation is it, who is the audience, what are the key points that need to be made.

2. We discuss the overall look and feel of the presentation.  I prepare a master look based on this discussion.

3. You do the research to back up each of the key points with sub-points such as facts, statistics, quotes, stories, analogies or examples.

4. We prepare the text of each slide based on the key points and related sub-points.

5. We discuss and prepare slide graphics, such as clip art, photos, diagrams and illustrations (including use of Photoshop if necessary).

6. We discuss and agree on animations to be used to give the best effect for each slide.

7. I assemble the presentation based on all discussions.

8. You review the presentation and give your comments.

9. The presentation is revised based on the insights you have provided.

10. The final presentation is delivered to you.

Not all clients require all ten steps, especially if the project is revising a set of slides that already exists, but we should discuss all of them to make sure what you have assembled is sufficient.  Many of my projects do not involve face-to-face meetings and can be done via e-mail and telephone.
