Delivering a Consistent Message

In today’s business world, every presentation must be customized to the client and the situation, while still maintaining the consistency that builds your brand. And therein lies the challenge. If you give your professionals complete freedom to create slides, you achieve customization but lose consistency. If you mandate “canned” presentations, you get consistency, but lose the customization that is necessary to convince an audience that you understand their unique situation.

Neither of these approaches works in practice. So what does work? An approach that blends consistency of key messages with the flexibility to use the consistent messages in unique ways. This approach consists of three steps in the overall PowerPoint Presentations Effectiveness System.

First, we identify the common ideas that your professionals communicate about your products, services or operations. This could be common product benefits, service features or information that supports decisions by upper management. This framework categorizes the key information in preparation for the next step.

Second, we create a standard set of slides to visually communicate the common ideas that were identified. This set of slides will be visual, including graphs, diagrams, photos and multimedia elements. The purpose of this set of slides is to create a core for the presentations, ensuring consistency in presentation of key ideas and improved productivity of your professionals in creating presentations.

Finally in this section, we identify how a professional will use the slides in the standard set to create a customized presentation. This will include determining when one of the standard slides should be customized and how it should be modified so that the consistency is not lost. It also includes identifying under what circumstances new slides should be added or the suggested sequence altered. This step leads to the next section in the system, which is the development of a customized training session for your professionals.
